CattleWomen's Activities
This section is meant to educate new and prospective OCW members. The CattleWomen always have a great time when we get together and hope you will join us in promoting Oklahoma's beef industry. For specific dates visit the Calendar of Events page.
Ag Day – Held annually at the state capitol in March to honor National Agriculture Day, the Oklahoma CattleWomen work alongside the Oklahoma Beef Council for this event. We promote beef with deliciously prepared beef recipe samples. Recipes and nutritional information are handed out. It’s a great day for visiting with legislators and their staff spreading the word about nutrient rich beef.
Beef Cook-Off – This cooking competition is held in conjunction with the Oklahoma Beef Council and occurs every other year. A call for entries is sent out to the public for favorite beef recipes in several categories. After careful elimination, the contestants are chosen and compete against each other and are judged by well-known chefs and experts of Oklahoma City. Over 30 Oklahoma CattleWomen participate at the competition in several different ways to assure a successful event. In 2009 the Cook Off was held at the Home & Garden Show on the state fairgrounds in Oklahoma City. Winning Recipes: 2009 Beef Cook-Off and OK Beef Firehouse Cook-off.
Quarterly Meetings – Are held throughout the year in conjunction with the OK Cattlemen’s Association at locations throughout the state. The November meeting is always held at OKC West Stockyards. The ribeye lunch is prepared and sold by OCW as a fundraiser. The members vote for the charity, this years funds went to the Food Bank.
Annual Meeting – The meeting is scheduled the last weekend in July and has been held at the Reed Center in MidWest City in recent years. Programs designed for our interest group are planned. Another don’t miss is the Ladies Day Luncheon on Friday for a delicious meal and interesting program. The Outstanding CattleWoman award is awarded each year at the luncheon and the criteria is listed in the bylaws.
All OCW members are welcome at board meetings and general session meetings.
Farm Show – In April each year, OK CattleWomen gather together at the Southern Plains Farm Show at the State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City and operate a RibEye Sandwich booth concession for the three day show. We are undoubtedly the most popular concession on the grounds. CattleWomen work in the concession trailer selling sandwiches to show attendees. We also sell and deliver sandwiches to exhibitors throughout the showgrounds. It’s a great time to enjoy working and getting to know each other and enjoy being out in the spring air. CattleWomen also operate an exhibitor booth to sell our cookbooks, pewter items, Rada knives and other beef related items. Funds generated are earmarked for scholarships.
Tulsa State Fair Beef Tent – Held the last of September each year, the Beef Tent is a RibEye Sandwich concession operated for eleven days by the Oklahoma Cattlemen during the Tulsa State Fair. OK CattleWomen work as volunteers for the OK Cattlemen for three days making and selling the sandwiches. Collegiate CattleWomen work one day. The Oklahoma Cattlemen donate a portion of the sales to OCW for their many worthwhile projects.
Oklahoma Beef Ambassador Contest - This is a state wide competition open to Oklahoma youth, ages 9-20. The goal is to produce/train spokespersons for the beef industry. This years competition will be held in Stillwater, Ok. The winner is eligible to compete the National Beef Ambassador Contest.
